Entity Instance Selection dialog

Note: the first time this dialog is shown, QStudio will create a list of all of the Entity Instances and their Types in the opened QGP/QGS files. For large datasets this may take up to a minute.

The Entity Instance Selection dialog is launched from the Game Design toolbar button . It allows the user to interact with one or more Entity Instances at a time. The following dialog is shown:

Filtering instances

Choosing Instance types

The Filter list, on the right of the window allows the user to select only Entity Instances of given Entity Types. As the checkboxes are changed the Instances list on the left is updated. The All, None and Invert buttons change the patterns of the checkboxes.

Note that the Types shown are only those types that are not extended by other types - i.e. they are leaf types.

Restricting to a given Zone

To only display Instances within a given Zone, check the Restrict to Zone checkbox and then select a Zone name from the combo box.

Instances list

The Instances list shows all of the Entity Instances in the currently opened Q Game Placement files which match the filter criteria. The list can be sorted by any column by clicking on the column header.

The columns show:

  1. The name of the Instance.
  2. The Entity Type of the Instance, e.g. BigMonster.
  3. The Zone that the object is in. If you have clicked the Restrict to Zone checkbox then all Instances in the list will have the same Zone.

One or more Instances can be selected by clicking on the list, or using the Ctrl or Shift buttons to extend the selection set.

The Select All button will select all Instances currently shown in the list.

The Clear Selection button will deselect all currently selected Instances.

Instance action buttons

The buttons under the list will only be enabled if an Instance has been selected by clicking on a list item. The buttons perform the following actions:

Locate Opens the Tree view to show the selected Entity Instance. It is highlighted in the tree.
Properties Shows the Properties dialog for the selected Entity Instance(s).
Set Active Sets the Entity Instance to be the Active Object for the Controller.
Mark or Unmark

Adds visualisation to the Entity Instance and the Entity Instance's Group.
